General Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to a course at BBS, all applicants must meet the minimum admission requirements set by BBS and any additional course-specific entry criteria.

Important Note

Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Entry into any course is based on a holistic assessment of the applicant’s academic background and, where relevant, work experience or prior study.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of course commencement.

English Language Requirement

Domestic applicants are not required to provide IELTS results. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency through prior studies completed in English or other approved evidence.

Applicants with Recent Secondary Education (within the last two years)

BBS will accept applicants that hold a formal qualification considered equivalent to an Australian Year 12.

Applicants with Higher Education Study

BBS will consider applicants who have successfully completed at least one year of a higher education course at an Australian higher education provider (AQF Level 7) within the last 10 years or an equivalent qualification. Credit may be granted where applicants have completed unit(s) at a similar level at an Australian higher education provider.

Applicants with VET Study

BBS will consider applicants who have successfully completed a Vocational Education and Training (VET) course within the last five years since leaving school. The VET course must be at least Certificate IV level or higher from an Australian Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or a higher education provider.

Applicants with Work and Life Experience

BBS does not consider applications based solely on work and life experience or informal study where formal higher education qualifications are not present. Entry is available only through the qualification pathways outlined above.

BBS will consider applicants who have successfully completed an Australian Bachelor’s degree (AQF Level 7) or an equivalent qualification. Where applicable, all applications for Credit or RPL must be submitted in accordance with BBS’s Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning Policy and Procedures.

Alternative Pathway Applicants

Applicants who do not hold a Bachelor’s degree (AQF Level 7) or recognised equivalent qualification may still be admitted if they have a Diploma (AQF Level 5) or equivalent, together with evidence of a minimum of five years of relevant industry experience at a managerial level. Applicants with qualifications below AQF Level 5 will not be admitted.

Applicants with Higher Education Study

Applicants who have successfully completed an Australian Bachelor’s degree (AQF Level 7) or an equivalent qualification may be considered. Where applicable, all applications for Credit or RPL must be submitted in accordance with BBS’s Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning Policy and Procedures.

Applicants with recent secondary education (within the last two years)

BBS will consider domestic applicants who hold a formal qualification considered equivalent to an Australian Year 12 qualification with an ATAR rank of 60 equivalent.

Applicants with higher education study

BBS will consider domestic applicants who have successfully completed at least one year of a higher education course at an Australian higher education provider (at Australian Qualification Framework level 7) within the last 10 years. Credit may be granted where applicants have completed unit(s) at a similar level at an Australian higher education provider.

Applicants with VET study

BBS will consider domestic applicants who have successfully completed any Vocational Education and Training (VET) course within the last five years since leaving school may be eligible for admission. The VET course must be at least Certificate IV level or higher from an Australian Registered Training Organisation (or equivalent) or a higher education provider.

Applicants with work and life experience

BBS will consider domestic applicants who have appropriate work and life experience. BBS will review applications on a case-by-case basis from domestic applicants who do not have formal qualifications for entry but who seek admission to courses on the basis of their educational and skills development through experience and informal study. Applicants who wish to be considered in this category must provide extensive evidence in support of their application.

In an event where applicants are not able to provide necessary documentation, applicants may be required to sit Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). This test is administered by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). This will need to be approved by the Dean on the case-by-case basis.
